My Journey from Windows 10 to 11: A Screen Reader User's Perspective

As a screen reader user, I was skeptical about upgrading from Windows 10 to 11 on my work laptop. But, curiosity got the better of me, and I took the plunge. In this post, I'll share my experiences, highlighting the pros and cons, and why I think you should consider making the switch.

Windows 11 feels familiar, yet different. Navigation using my screen reader is generally easy, but I occasionally get stuck in menus while exploring settings. It's not a deal-breaker, but it requires some patience.

The Windows search feature is still phenomenal! It quickly takes me to settings, applications, files, and even emails. This integrated experience is a game-changer, making it easy to find what I need in no time.

Some bragging about Windows 11 (NOT SPONSERED):

1. Improved Performance: Windows 11 is snappier and more responsive.

2. Enhanced Security: Better protection against malware and threats.

3. Streamlined Interface: Cleaner design, reduced clutter.

4. New Features: Snap Layouts, Focus Assist, and more.

Productive Advantages:

1. Better Multitasking: Easier to manage multiple windows and apps.

2. Improved Accessibility: Enhanced screen reader support and features.

3. Increased Organization: Simplified file management and search.

Hardware Requirements:

Before upgrading, ensure your laptop meets these requirements:

1. 64-bit CPU

2. 4 GB RAM (8 GB or more recommended)

3. 64 GB storage

4. UEFI firmware

5. Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 2.0

6. Graphics card compatible with DirectX 12

Windows 11 is an excellent choice for those seeking improved performance, security, and accessibility. While navigation may require some adjustment, the benefits outweigh the minor quirks. Take the leap, and experience the enhanced productivity and integrated features for yourself!

  1. I use Windows 11. Ever since I got rid of using ZoomText I feel like I can access things better. I'm so much happier now that I've been away from Vocational Rehab for a few years. I feel like I can be me.
