Your life is a race; you are always the last one

"Somebody out there probably thinks you're the greatest thing in the whole world. Don't ever think you're not good enough." ~ - John David Anderson.

The day came and went; you are blowing candles on the cake to celebrate another year gone by. You look at the people around you, they are celebrating your presence and glorifying your existance. They said that age is just a number; is it really?

I had a birthday recently; not the usual celebration of me getting drunk and making a complete ass of myself. Thanks to the pandemic I was "trapped" celebrating my 46th one with the family; wasn't much of a celebration since it was also the month of Ramadan; see there is a Ram in Ramadan; now you say that there is a Ali in Deepawali? Seriously, this is the justification you want to use for societal harmony?

Anyway; coming back to the topic. We did the usual without the cake cutting ceremony and everyone at home gave me their hearty wishes; some actually came from the heart. A day full of messages on Facebook and What app. which I was quick enough to reply to. For me it was just another day on the planet; I had nothing special to celebrate, nothing special that I achieved the year before, nothing grand that I did to move that mountain etc. enough, you got the message right?

So what was I celebrating? To kill the buzz, just another year on the planet... What was the point of writing this post? Like the title said Your life is a race; you are always the last one; to complete the thought; no matter how hard you try, there will always be that someone that is smarter than you, richer than you, healthier than you, happier than you, thinner or fatter than you, fairer or darker than you, successful than you, blah, blah, blah

I remember when I was a toddler I wanted to grow up to have the privilages that the adults did, when I was a teenager I wanted to grow up and do what the adults did, when I was an adult I wanted to get married, have a highly paying job and 4 children 2 boys and 2 girls. That didn't work out very well; so I sit here writing away and concluding to myself - Your life is a race; you are always the last one!

Dear readers; the message is that you will never win; life will give you it's best and worst experiences when you are alive and your race is always going to be competitive. The reason I say that you will never win; because no matter how hard you try, there will always be that someone that is smarter than you, richer than you, healthier than you, happier than you, thinner or fatter than you, fairer or darker than you, successful than you, blah, blah, blah The race ends when you die; so keep running and don't bother about winning or losing; enjoy every bit of the journey called life. It will never come back as you!

P.S. I lied when I said "I remember when I was a toddler"; because all I did at that time was eat and poop!

"And then one day you find ten years have got behind you. No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun. … And you run, and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking Racing around to come up behind you again The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older Shorter of breath and one day closer to death" ~ Pink Floyd; The Wall 1979

  1. Great blog. This blog does remind me of what Paul said, "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7 (NIV)
